At Wevise, our volunteers are driven by a passion to make a difference. As we approach the season of giving, we’re excited to spotlight Ashton Stom, our Volunteer of the Month for October. Ashton is a full-stack engineer at Wevise who joined to make tech careers more accessible for those looking to break into the industry. His efforts, rooted in personal experience, aim to make Wevise a go-to platform for job seekers and students, especially in these challenging times.
Ashton’s biggest hope is to be the catalyst to build a hub where disadvantaged people can find resources, mentorship, and job search support in one place. “It’s been a great experience working with passionate people on such a meaningful project,” Ashton said. “The challenges at this scale are unique, and it’s motivating to know the impact we’re creating for others in tech.”
By day, Ashton works as a Nurse Assistant on the stroke unit at a hospital in Olympia, WA, while finishing school to start his career as a software engineer. Balancing his work in healthcare and his dedication to Wevise, Ashton brings both a sense of mission and strong technical skills to the team. “My favorite part has been creating features and undertaking challenges I normally would not have the opportunity to take on with a solo project,” Ashton shared. He joined Wevise to add meaningful startup experience to his bootcamp training, preparing him for a full-time role in tech. Ashton is one of many admirable Wevise volunteers who joined this dynamic team for a chance to advance their careers in the name of helping others.
In his personal life, Ashton has plenty to celebrate—he just got married on October 6th after many years with his partner, and they live in Olympia with their two dogs, Astro and Lotus, and two cats, Odin and Nala. They enjoy hiking, gaming, and building community online. Ashton even creates companion sites for upcoming video games, showcasing his creativity and tech skills.
Ashton’s work at Wevise reflects his commitment to making career advancement in tech accessible to all. We’re thrilled to celebrate him this month for his dedication and vision, and we look forward to the great things he’ll continue to accomplish.
