Role Overview
The Lead Front-End Developer is a hands-on engineering contributor responsible for building and enhancing the user experience across the Wevise platform.
This role works closely with the Head of Engineering, product stakeholders, designers, and other volunteer contributors to transform product requirements into intuitive, accessible, and high-quality user experiences. While primarily an individual contributor role, the Lead Front-End Developer may provide technical guidance and support to other front-end contributors when appropriate.
The expected commitment is a minimum of 5-10 hours per week.

- Maintaining front-end code quality and development standards.
- Improving usability, accessibility, responsiveness, and performance.
- Supporting technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Helping move engineering initiatives forward through hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain front-end application features.
- Build responsive and accessible user interfaces.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering team members.
- Participate in code reviews and engineering discussions.
- Troubleshoot UI issues and support platform improvements.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Support adoption of front-end engineering best practices.
Qualifications
- Experience building modern web applications and user interfaces.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience with React, Next.js, HTML, CSS, and responsive design.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and front-end integration patterns.
- Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Passion for mentorship, education, and social impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Supabase, and Vercel.
- Experience working in startup, nonprofit, open-source, or volunteer-driven environments.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and performance optimization.
- Experience mentoring junior developers.
- Interest in user experience, design systems, and front-end architecture.
