Position Summary
Wevise is seeking a mission-driven, people-centered volunteer Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to build
and lead the people systems that power our movement. This is a high-impact role ideal for a strategic HR leader
who thrives in nonprofit, values-driven environments and is passionate about developing inclusive,
high-performing teams.
The CHRO will design and oversee all aspects of volunteer talent strategy—including recruitment, onboarding,
culture-building, performance systems, conflict resolution, and leadership development. You will ensure that
Wevise’s people practices reflect our values, strengthen our community, and support the organization’s growth
toward a future paid structure.
Key Responsibilities
People Strategy & Culture (40%)
- Build and lead a human-centered people strategy that strengthens volunteer engagement, belonging, and retention.
- Champion an inclusive, psychologically safe culture rooted in equity, mentorship, and shared purpose.
- Develop leadership pathways and growth opportunities for volunteers across all teams.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding (30%)
- Oversee recruitment processes for all volunteer roles, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with
- organizational needs.
- Design and manage onboarding experiences that set volunteers up for success and deepen connection
- to Wevise’s mission.
- Partner with the COO and CEO to forecast talent needs as programs and partnerships scale.
Performance, Development & HR Operations (30%)
- Establish lightweight but effective performance systems that support accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement.
- Provide coaching and guidance to volunteer leaders on team management, conflict resolution, and communication.
- Ensure compliance with HR best practices and legal/ethical standards applicable to volunteer-based nonprofits.
- Support the transition toward future paid roles by building scalable HR infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in HR leadership, talent strategy, or people operations—preferably in a nonprofistartup, or volunteer-driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build inclusive cultures and lead diverse teams. Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
- Experience designing or managing recruitment, onboarding, performance systems, or organizational development.
- Comfortable leading in a lean, fast-paced, resource-constrained environment. Passionate about equity in tech, mentorship, and community empowerment.
- Required: experience in a nonprofit as a volunteer or other role.
- Strongly desired: experience leading volunteers or managing distributed teams.
