The fantastic Josie Weitzel was our debut Volunteer of the Month for July. Now, we are thrilled that the equally fantastic Beth Meeks is our Volunteer of the Month for August.
Beth became Wevise’s Digital Marketing Manager in October 2023, bringing her deep experience in the tech field to our growing team. She is a mother to a daughter and a son. She lives in San Antonio and currently does digital marketing for a nonprofit that encourages inbound travel to the U.S. She saw big success very early in her career, setting the stage for her role with Wevise. And what is clear is that Beth is at Wevise so that anybody can find success in tech.
Throughout every step of her career, Beth has proven to be resourceful and a critical component of any team she’s worked on. “At 28, I was doing things that most people don’t even start doing until their 40s,” she said. By 32, she was running a multimillion-dollar product line. But sometimes, the tech world can be a challenging and unfair environment, particularly for women – something she experienced firsthand and which has informed much of her view about why Wevise’s work is extremely important.
Why did you join Wevise?
“I myself have experienced issues with being a minority in tech and by the age of 35 left tech because of it,” she said. “I want to change things. I want to change things so that anyone can be in tech and be successful.”
As for her goal for Wevise?
“I think we’re missing out on great talent in tech. With greater diversity, we’d unlock a wider range of innovative solutions,” Beth said. “I envision Wevise as a professional network that opens doors for everyone in tech—regardless of their educational background, whether or not they’ve attended school, or any underrepresented status. My goal is to ensure that everyone has access to a network that not only helps them secure a tech job but also supports their success and growth in the field.”
Wevise’s mission is important for the people it serves, but it also impacts our volunteers as well. Last month, Josie said the people who work at Wevise are what makes it truly special, and Beth is a shining example of this.
What is best part about working at Wevise?
“I’ve had a several negative experiences at companies,” Beth noted. “It is good to be at a company where people truly care about each other and are supportive of one another. It’s for a really great cause, it lets me use some tools that I haven’t used before, allows me to work with products I haven’t worked with in awhile, and gives me all sorts of new exposures.”
